Who is this for? Learners who cannot sit an exam during the main window, or who need a flexible exam date.
Exam deferment is the official process that lets you postpone or reschedule an exam due to valid or unforeseen circumstances. It supports learners facing unavoidable challenges during the main exam period. Valid reasons include health challenges with medical proof, family or personal emergencies, financial or personal difficulty, unexpected work commitments, academic pressure, technical issues during the exam window, and bereavement.
To qualify for exam deferment or an on-demand exam, you must be registered for the semester's courses, have completed your tuition payment, submit your request within the approved window, and provide supporting documents such as medical reports or proof of emergency.
Log in to your Student Portal and click Deferments on the side menu.
Select your assigned Success Advisor, then choose the deferment type: Exam Deferment.
Choose the exams you wish to defer. You can select more than one.
Enter your location to confirm your exam centre. The university will schedule the deferred exam dates, and, assign the final CBT centre.
Provide your reason(s) and upload supporting documents.
Review everything for accuracy, then confirm and submit.
On-demand exams let you choose when to sit an exam within a designated window, subject to approval by the Examination Department. This enables the university to accommodate diverse schedules and unique circumstances. The on-demand exam form is shared on request, and a fee applies: ₦10,000 Naira for domestic learners or $20 US dollars for international learners. The payment link is provided directly on the form.
Note No account number is shared with any learner. All payments must be made only through the official link on the form. Once payment is confirmed and the form is completed, the Examination Department contacts you with detailed instructions.
The examination team reviews your request and confirms the outcome by email; your Success Advisor may follow up where needed. Check your Miva email regularly, and remember that deferred exam dates are determined and communicated by the Examinations Office.
What is the difference between a deferred exam and an on-demand exam?
A deferred exam is a rescheduled exam approved for learners who missed the original schedule for a valid reason. An on-demand exam lets you choose your preferred date and time within the official window for added flexibility.
Can I defer just one course?
Yes. Deferment is flexible and applies only to the exams you are unable to take.
Will I be charged for deferring my exams?
No. There is no charge for exam deferment. On-demand exams do carry a fee: 10,000 Naira for domestic learners and 20 US dollars for international learners.
What if my exam deferment is denied?
Raise a ticket with the Examination Department giving a valid reason why you cannot sit during the main period, and your request will be reviewed for reconsideration.
